Art that welcomes you home
Design your custom glass sign
Hand-fired glass signs, mosaics and murals, designed around your story and guaranteed never to fade, even in direct sunlight. Tell us what you have in mind and Monica will draw you a concept before anything is made.

Signs we have made for other people
Every one of these started as a conversation. Sizes are the finished dimensions, glass and cement, ready to hang.

How a custom sign gets made
Nothing is fired, and nothing is invoiced, until you have seen it and said it is right.
Tell us about it
Answer a few questions about the name, the space and what it should feel like. Takes a few minutes and costs nothing.
Choose your images
The questionnaire opens our full background library and a foreground gallery in thirteen categories, from mermaids to shorebirds. Pick what you like, or send a photograph of your own.
We draw a concept
Monica designs it and sends you a proof, and you can change anything until you say it is perfect. A border of glass tiles is optional. If you want one, pick two tile colors for the frame. You do not have to decide alone - send us a picture of the front of the house and we will lay out the tile colors you picked alongside our suggestions. Monica puts them next to your kiln fired glass and you can change them as many times as you like before fabrication of your sign.
We fire it into glass
Only once you have approved the concept. Fired at 1280 degrees, set in cement on backer board, sealed and drilled ready to mount.
What that looks like in the shop
Step four, photographed. The artwork is printed in ceramic glass frit, cut into sections, and fired into the glass. What leaves here is one solid piece, not a kit of parts.

Coastal HourGlass - the fired glass sections and their border tiles, laid out on the bench.

The same sign, set in cement, sealed and drilled. The fine lines across the artwork are the edges of the sections.
We ask you to pick the border tiles, and we are glad to recommend colours as well. Some customers send us a picture of the front of the house, and we lay out the colour they picked along with our suggestions. The border is chosen after the glass comes out of the kiln - that is what the loose tiles are doing beside the fired sections in the workbench photograph.
The color is ceramic frit fused into the surface of the glass at 1280 degrees, not ink printed on top of it. There is no pigment sitting on the surface for sunlight to bleach, which is why these signs do not fade outdoors.
Sizes and pricing
Every sign is built from fired glass sections, so the sizes below are the ones the sections actually make. Pick the height that suits your wall, then the width that fills it. Tell us the space you have and we will suggest the nearest size.
Every size can be turned on its side. Need a tall sign for a narrow wall or post? The same sizes and prices work flipped: a 46.5″ x 15.75″ sign can be made 15.75″ wide and 46.5″ tall. Just tell us on the design form.
Cost is invoiced once you accept the concept. You can request as many changes as you need until you say it is perfect, and nothing is charged before then.
Eight sections in two rows, inside an optional 2″ band of border tiles - the 45.75″ x 19.25″ size in the third table. Another section along adds width; another row adds height.

Prices are for custom signs with border tiles. The border is optional: a borderless sign is about 12% lower on average - choose Borderless on the design form and we will quote your exact size. The highlighted row in each table is the size of the sign photographed above it. Weights are approximate and are being checked. Round pieces and anything outside this ladder are quoted individually. Shipping is calculated at checkout.
